The UK’s new £298bn Defence Investment Plan (DIP) is a bold statement of intent. It recognises that the threats we face today – and those rapidly emerging – demand a defence posture built on speed, autonomy, software, and intelligent systems, not legacy processes and slow procurement cycles.

Investment in drones, autonomous platforms, AI‑enabled capability, digital infrastructure, and warfighting readiness shows a clear shift: defence is finally moving towards the reality of modern conflict.

My own journey began navigating Royal Navy warships, where readiness wasn’t theoretical – it was lived every day. You learned quickly that capability only matters if it’s reliable, adaptable, and available at the moment you need it. That mindset has shaped everything I do.
