Voyant has developed an enhanced radar system utilising its track-before-detect technology to significantly strengthen surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities in uncrewed operations. The programme is being delivered in collaboration with a partner nation within NATO, alongside a major defence prime and a network of specialist partners.
Voyant’s upgraded system integrates proprietary advanced sensing algorithms utilising particle filters, to enhance aerial detection, tracking, and classification performance. By extending detection ranges and improving target discrimination in complex and cluttered environments, the solution provides operators with improved situational awareness and greater operational effectiveness.
At the core of the system is the application of Voyant’s track-before-detect capability, enabling the detection and tracking of low-signature and fast-moving targets—capabilities that conventional radar systems, on their own, struggle to achieve.
James Norwood, CEO of Voyant, commented:
“Voyant has developed a strong and enduring relationship with our partners on this programme, working closely to push the boundaries of our capabilities and deliver a highly advanced radar system for this unmanned rotorcraft. We are pleased with the performance achieved to date and are exploring opportunities for further collaboration.”
The development comes at a time of increased strategic focus in uncrewed systems. Recent announcements by the First Sea Lord at DSEI 2025 highlighted a drive to accelerate innovation and integration of autonomous capabilities, supporting the vision of a more hybrid Royal Navy over the next two years. Voyant’s enhanced radar capability aligns closely with this direction, enabling more effective deployment of uncrewed platforms in complex and contested environments.
Voyant’s enhanced radar system is designed with adaptability in mind, enabling integration across aerial, maritime, and land platforms, as well as fixed installations. This flexibility supports interoperability among allied forces and ensures the system can evolve alongside emerging operational requirements.
By combining advanced radar innovation with sophisticated data fusion, Voyant continues to expand the boundaries of sensing and deliver mission-critical solutions for demanding defence environments.
